Another Successful Taste of Weakley and Obion County

March 26th, 2013 - By Steve James

The ninth annual Taste of Weakley and Obion County Gala and Auction was once again successful with raising funds to help the local Carl Perkins Center.

The goal of the Center is to provide support to families in preventing and dealing with child abuse in West Tennessee.

The event which helped the Martin chapter that serves Weakley and Obion Counties, featured dozens of area vendors and restaurants, as well as an auction.

According to the Director of the Martin location, Pam McElhiney, around 200 people attended the event which was down from last year, but the funds that were raised broke all previous records.

Approximately $20,000 dollars were raised and after expenses, the total raised is around $17,000 dollars. The auction part of the event totaled over $12,000 dollars and that was double from last year’s numbers.

To learn more about the Carl Perkins Center and what they do in the community, you can tune into 30 Minutes this weekend on WCMT where Ms. McElhiney will be our guest.
