Area Non-Profit in Grant Contest

March 21st, 2013 - By Steve James

A local non profit group has been chosen to compete in a grant contest sponsored by Wal-Mart.

The Weakley County Backpack Program, which helps provide food for county school children who may not have enough at home, was chosen to participate in the Wal-Mart Fighting Hunger Together program.

Area residents will be able to go online next month and vote for the Backpack Program for the chance to win grants given out by the Wal-Mart Corporation. To date, “Fighting Hunger Together” has provided more than $122 million in grants and 594 million pounds of food to communities.

The voting will begin on April the 1st and a link to the voting page will be on their website at weakleycountybackpack.com.

To hear more about the Backpack Program, you can tune into 30 Minutes on WCMT this weekend, where we’ll hear from Program Coordinators, Lori Mathis, Colin Johnson, and Jake Bynum.
