Braves to Have New Stadium by 2017

November 11th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

010-27Atlanta Braves President John Schuerholz made a big announcement to fans of the baseball team Monday morning, stating a new stadium will be built by 2017.

The current home of the Braves, at Turner Field, began in 1997, one year after the facility was built and used for the 1996 Summer Olympics.

The Braves had a 20 year lease at Turner, with Schuerholz speaking of major renovations and work needed at the site at the cost of over $100 million dolars.

Schuerholz said the new stadium will feature surrounding businesses and shops, and is being designed to be used year around by the public.

Major League Baseball Commissioner Bud Selig said there was full support from the entire league on a new home for the Braves.
