Bridge Struck in West Kentucky

January 7th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

A western Kentucky bridge was struck by a towboat Monday afternoon, forcing engineers to survey the structure.

Transportation Cabinet engineers were called to the US 60 Tennessee River Bridge at Ledbetter, after the motor vessel “Gladys Ford” struck a pier while pushing several barges.

Traffic was allowed to continue to cross the 81 year old bridge, after initial investigations revealed no serious damage.

Approximately 8,000 vehicles cross the bridge daily, with a new bridge is being built upstream.

The U.S. Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit from Paducah is investigating the incident.
