Brutally Cold Temperatures

January 22nd, 2014 - By Charles Choate

Area residents are being encouraged to use safety today and tonight with the brutally cold temperatures and wind chills.

Forecasters say wind chill values will be below zero today, as daytime temperatures remain in the teens.

Overnight tonight, some of the coldest air of the winter season will return, as lows dip to the mid to low single digits.

Homeowners that are susceptible to have freezing water, are being advised to check and close all outside vents, while leaving a trickle of cold water running all night to help avoid freeze-up.

Proper shelter is being advised for all outdoor pets, who suffer stress during the very cold conditions.

Vehicle owners are also urged to carry a blanket and other supplies during the cold period, to assist in the event of an accident or break down.

Motorists are also urged to fully charge their cell phone battery and to have plenty of gasoline when traveling in the dangerously cold conditions.
