After 5 hours and 32 minutes of baseball last night in Phoenix, the St. Louis Cardinals lost to the Arizona Diamondbacks 10-9.

The 16 inning game had the Cardinals leading three times, first at 4-1 in the 3rd inning on a 2-RBI hit by Yadier Molina.

After the Diamondbacks took a 5-4 lead in the 5th inning, Daniel Descalso put St. Louis back on top in the 6th.

The game eventually went into extra innings at 8-8, with the Cardinals again taking the lead in the 12th off of the bat of Pete Kozma.

Redbird reliever Trevor Rosenthal could not close out the game, and allowed a run in the bottom half of the 12th.

But in the 16th inning, following a walk to Jason Kubel by Cardinal pitcher Fernando Salas, Cliff Pennington gave the Diamondacks the series win with a base hit.

Daniel Descalso was 4-for-7 on the night, with Matt Adams picking up three hits in six at-bats.

Starting pitcher Lance Lynn went four innings, giving up six hits and four runs.

The Cardinals are now (1-2) on the season and take the day off today, before starting a three game series tomorrow afternoon against the San Francisco Giants.

Broadcast time tomorrow will begin at 2:40 on 1049 KYTN.
