The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a blown save opportunity to gain ground in the Central Division race.

The Redbirds saw a two run lead vanish in the 9th inning at Milwaukee, but rallied to beat the Brewers 7-6 in 10 innings.

St. Louis appeared to have the game in check, when rookie sensation Matt Adams broke a 4-4 tie in the 9th inning with a 2-run blast.

With Cardinals closer Edward Mujica called upon to shut down the Brewers in the bottom half of the 9th, for the second straight game the save opportunity was blown.

Aramis Ramirez tied the score at 6-6, with a dribbler down the third base line.

In the 10th, the Redbirds were able to regain the lead, when Carlos Beltran delivered the game winning RBI.

The three Cardinal Matt’s, Carpenter, Adams and Holliday, all contributed three hits in the game, as St. Louis extended their Central Division lead to 2.0 games over both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati.

The Cardinals and Brewers play Game 2 of their series tonight, with broadcast time on 1049 KYTN set for 5:15.
