John Gast – wins Major League debut

The St. Louis Cardinals provided plenty of offense last night, for the Major League debut of rookie phenom John Gast on the mound.

The Redbirds pounded the New York Mets 10-4, with Gast earning his first career win.

The game was in little doubt, with Allen Craig giving St. Louis a 3-0 advantage in the 1st inning, with a 2-RBI hit.

In the 3rd inning, the Redbirds went on top 5-0 thanks to a Matt Carpenter RBI hit.

The big blow in the game came in the 5th, when Carlos Beltran pushed the lead out to 9-0 on a 3-run home run.

Gast’s debut went six innings, with six hits and four runs scored.

Beltan was the offensive star of the game, collecting three hits and four RBI’s, as St. Louis ran their season record to (25-13).

The Cardinals and Mets play Game 3 of their series tonight, with broadcast time on 1049 KYTN set to start at 6:20.
