Cards Beat Nationals 8-0

October 10th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The St. Louis Cardinals took a 2-to-1 National League Division Series lead over the Washington Nationals Wednesday afternoon.

The Cardinals beat the Nationals 8-0, with Chris Carpenter going 5 2/3 innings and picking up his first win of the year.

St. Louis actually got all the run support they needed on the day in the first inning, when Allen Craig drove in Matt Holliday with two outs.

The big hit of the game for St. Louis came in the second inning, when rookie shortstop Pete Kozma homered with two runners on base.

The Redbirds scored single runs in the 6th and 7th innings, with Matt Holliday collecting a two RBI single in the 8th inning to seal the scoring.

The Cardinals will try to clinch the best-of-five series tomorrow in Washington, with broadcast time on 1049 set to start at 2:12.
