Cards End With Win; At Atlanta Friday

October 4th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The St. Louis Cardinals now advance to a post season game, after winning their regular season finale 1-0 over the Cincinnati Reds.

Cardinal starter Shelby Miller, who made his first start ever for the Redbirds, took a no-hitter into the 6th inning as the Cardinals held the Reds to only three hits on the night.

With the game still scoreless in the 8th inning, St. Louis third baseman Matt Carpenter delivered the games winning run on an RBI single.

Manager Mike Matheny then called on closer Jason Motte to end the game, with Motte claiming his 42nd save of the year.

St. Louis ends the regular season with 88 wins, and will now play a one game Wild Card series in Atlanta Friday afternoon.

The winner will advance to take on the Washington Nationals in a best-of-seven series.

Broadcast time for Friday’s playoff game will begin on 1049 KYTN at 3:12, with Kyle Lohse taking the mound for the Cardinals.
