Cards Fall in Florida

June 15th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

Cardinals 2The St. Louis Cardinals were not able to hold an early lead last night in Miami, and fell to the Marlins 5-4.

St. Louis took a 2-0 lead in the 1st inning, when Yadier Molina collected an RBI hit.

That lead dwindled in the 4th inning, when the Marlins Greg Dobbs put his team on top when facing Cardinal starter Jake Westbrook.

Miami went out on to 5-2, with David Freese pulling St. Louis to within one run in the 8th inning.

Westbrook took the loss for the Redbirds after returning to the mound for the first time since May 8th.

He went five innings, allowing eight hits and all five runs.

The Redbirds had eight hits in the game, with Allen Craig collecting two of those.

The two teams will play Game 2 of the series this afternoon, with broadcast time on 1049 KYTN set for 2:15.
