The St. Louis Cardinals are now (1-3) on their season opening road trip, following a 1-0 loss to San Francisco Friday afternoon.

The Redbirds managed only three hits in the game against Giants starter Barry Zito, with Alan Craig getting two of those in three at-bats.

The lone run of the game came in the 4th inning, which was helped in part to an error by Gold Glove catcher Yadier Molina.

Molina’s error loaded the bases for San Francisco’s Angel Pagan, who collected an RBI without swinging the bat off of Redbird pitcher Jake Westbrook.

Westbrook pitched six innings in the game, allowing six hits and six walks.

Zito threw seven innings for the Giants, striking out four and allowing three walks.

The Cardinals will try to win Game 2 of the series this afternoon, sending Shelby Miller to the mound, with broadcast time set for 2:10 on 1049 KYTN.
