Cards Magic Number at One

October 2nd, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The St. Louis Cardinals are now one win, or one Dodger loss away, from capturing the second Wild Card playoff spot in the National League.

The Redbirds secured the chance by beating the Cincinnati Reds 4-2 last night at Busch Stadium.

The Cardinals trailed in the game 1-0 in the bottom of the 3rd, when pitcher Jamie Garcia helped himself with a solo home run.

Still in the 3rd, Allen Craig gave St. Louis the lead with an RBI double.

The lead held until the 9th inning, when Redbird closer Jason Motte was called in to end the game.

Garcia picked up his 7th win of the year, while Motte gained his 41st save.

The Los Angeles Dodgers won last night in the bottom of the 9th inning, 3-2 over San Diego, and remain two games back of St. Louis with two games to play.

The Cardinals and Reds play at Busch Stadium, with broadcast time on 1049 KYTN set for 6:20.
