Cards Sweep Marlins; Back in 1st Place

July 8th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

The St. Louis Cardinals completed a three game sweep of the Miami Marlins Sunday afternoon at Busch Stadium.

The Redbirds 3-2 win also brought them back into a tie for the Central Division lead with the Pittsburgh Pirates.

The Cardinals took the lead at 1-0 in the 1st inning, when Matt Holliday took a pitch out of the park.

An Allen Craig sacrifice fly made the score 2-1 in the 3rd inning, only moments before a strange play occurred with Holliday being caught in a steal attempt.

The win gave St. Louis pitcher Lance Lynn his 11th victory of the year, with seven innings of work and seven strikeouts.

The Cardinals only managed six hits in the game, two of those coming from Carlos Beltran.

St. Louis takes the day off today, and will host the Houston Astros for a two game series starting Tuesday night.
