Civil War Days at Columbus Park

October 12th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

Thousands of people are expected to flock to the western Kentucky battlefield of Columbus-Belmont State Park this weekend, to attend Civil War Days.

The three day event in Hickman County starts today, and will include battle re-enactment, history tours, soldier camps and the firing of cannons.

Today is Education Day, with students and other groups visiting the camp sites for history lessons and information.

Opening ceremonies will take place this evening, with Henry County’s Rick Revel providing entertainment, and cannons firing from the bluff area.

Civil War battles will be held at 2:00 on both Saturday and Sunday, with a Civil War Ball set for Saturday night and memorial services at the Columbus Cemetery on Sunday morning.

Admission to the Civil War Days is free of charge.
