Commodity Program Helping Ag Extension Agencies

July 30th, 2013 - By Steve James

A new program underway in the Dyer County area called Commodities for Communities, is helping local agriculture extension agencies through gifts of agricultural commodities.

The program is coordinated by the University of Tennessee Foundation.

The Foundation’s Director of Advancement for the Western Region of Tennessee, Michelle Sides, said it allows local producers to donate items to the group who in turn, sell the items and the money raised help fund extension agencies.

Sides said all funds stay within the designated county. They currently are only in Dyer and Crockett Counties, but the Foundation expects it expand to others soon.
