Double Murder in Greenfield

February 7th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

Two men are dead after a bizarre domestic incident that occurred in Greenfield Wednesday afternoon.

Weakley County Sheriff Mike Wilson says 61 year old David McAllister was killed when he was run over by a pick-up truck driven by his son, 40 year old Eric McAllister, of Greenfield.

The incident occurred at 246 Shades Bridge Road in South Weakley County, at the home of Raymond McAllsiter.

Sheriff Wilson said Eric McAllister then shot and killed 51 year old Tim Betts, also of Greenfield, who apparently happened up on the scene from nearby property.

Following the killing of the two men, reports said Eric McAllister then began to fire shots from a deer rifle at his brother, Raymond McAllister.

Investigations indicate that Raymond McAllister returned fire with a 30.06 rifle, striking Eric McAllister in the hip.

Sheriff’s reports said Eric McAllister dropped his weapon and surrendered when officers arrived on the scene, and was taken to Volunteer Community Hospital in Martin, and later placed into custody.

Sheriff Wilson said at this time there was no none reason of motive for the incident.

The bodies of David McAllister and Tim Betts were sent to Memphis for autopsy.

Eric McAllister has been charged with two counts of First Degree Murder and one county of Criminal Attempt to Commit First Degree Murder.

He will appear this afternoon in Weakley County General Sessions Court for his first arraignment.
