Dresden Board Meeting

November 16th, 2012 - By Steve James

Following last night’s Dresden City Board meeting, the city now has a new recycling program, and there’s a policy in place regarding yard sales.

The Board unanimously approved a plan from Barker Brothers to set up recycling within the city. It calls for regular trash being collected once every other week, with recyclable materials being picked up on the alternating weeks.

The new collection will add an additional one dollar per month to resident’s bills. The company will lock their fuel fees for one year, and the annual price increase will be two percent. The new pick up schedule will begin around the start of the new year.

In other business, the Board passed an ordinance regarding yard sales in residential areas. It states residents can have one yard sale per quarter with no more than four a year on Thursday, Friday, Saturday from sun up to sun down. There will be a fifty dollar fine for any past the limit.

This was the last meeting for Aldermen Jake Bynum and Donnie Essary, as neither seeked reelection.

Mr. Essary said he enjoyed his six years on the board and was proud to serve the citizens of Dresden

Bynum echoed the same sentiments, and said he hopes to be able to serve Dresden resident in other ways in the future

Former Dresden Mayor Joyce Hurt and Jeff Washburn take their seat on the board next month.
