Dresden City Board Meeting

July 2nd, 2013 - By Steve James

The City of Dresden has officially approved its 2013-2014 fiscal year budget.

The approximately $1.8 million dollar budget was voted in unanimously by the board and will have the same tax rates as last year. The property tax rate is set at $1.50 per $100 dollars of assessed value.

Mayor Danny Forrester said because the city had excess funds of around $50,000 dollars, each property owner in the city would be receiving a voucher for approximately $40 dollars that they could use at any business within the city limits.

Mayor Forrester said the voucher program helps show how much the City of Dresden appreciates its residents and it can help increase commerce for local businesses.

The vouchers will be given out in the next two weeks and can be used for 45 days after they are issued. Any Dresden business that receives one of the vouchers for payment, can bring it to City Hall and the staff will write a check for the amount.

In other business, the board decided rescind a previous resolution that allowed Ms Jo Robbin Buckley keep a horse on her property on Highway 54. Several of Ms. Buckley’s neighbors said they weren’t asked for approval in the matter, so the topic will be brought up and voted on again at a future board meeting.

The board ended the meeting with approving the purchase of a new ATV for the Public Works Department for approximately $12,.000 dollars.

The Dresden Board will meet again next month on Monday August the 5th at six o’clock at Dresden City Hall.
