Early Voting Ranks Second

November 2nd, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The state of Tennessee had over 1.4 million voters take advantage of early voting for the November 6th elections.

State officials say the final day of the period on Thursday, produced the largest turnout with 134,000 votes cast state-wide.

Reports from the Secretary of State’s office indicated that this early voting period was the second largest ever recorded, beating the 2004 presidential voting by a quarter of a million votes.

In Obion County, 7,215 total votes were cast, with Weakley County reporting 6,600.

In Lake County, election officials say their early period doubled the 2008 election, with 1,097 votes cast.
