Fincher, Alexander Comment on Obama Speech

February 13th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

Congressman Stephen Fincher said he is disappointed at what he heard from President Barack Obama during last night’s State of the Union address.

The Crockett County Republican said it was evident since the campaign was over, that the President had given up on reducing spending.

Fincher said he had high hopes that Obama would follow through on his campaign promise to lower the national debt, but now feels he will continue to press forward with massive government spending.

Fincher also said the President’s plan to again raise taxes is counter productive to growing the economy.

He said what was needed was a specific plan to cut spending and reform programs, to get the economy moving in the right direction.

U.S. Senator Lamar Alexander released a statement saying he too was disappointed at the President’s speech.

Alexander said Obama missed a “golden opportunity” to present a serious plan concerning Medicare.

The Tennessee Senator called Medicare the “most serious problem facing the country” and said the President did not touch on reducing the out of control entitlement spending.
