Four to be Inducted at UTM

October 2nd, 2012 - By Charles Choate

Four former athletes at UT-Martin will take their place in the universities Hall of Fame this Saturday.

Former softball player Nicole Davis, women’s basketball player Tessa Fields, football star Larry Washington and tennis player Tom Wride will be enshrined during the Letter Winner’s Breakfast and Hall induction at 8:00 Saturday morning.

Davis played softball at UTM from 2002 to 2005 and was voted an All-OVC player three years. She also ranks in the Top-10 in 17 different team categories, including home runs, RBI’s and pitching victories.

Fields played basketball from 1997 to 1999, helping UTM to OVC Tournament Championship games twice, and a win over Ole Miss in the WNIT her senior year. She still holds single-season records in free throws made and assists.

Washington ranks among the Top-10 in school history with more than 1,700 yards rushing during his career from 1974 to 1976. After graduation, Washington played in the Canadian Football League for the Edmonton Eskimos, helping them to the Grey Cup in 1977 and a win in the Cup in 1978.

Wride played tennis at UTM from 1998 to 2001, making the OVC Commissioner’s Honor Roll all four years. He was also named to the All-OVC team his freshman and senior seasons.
