Giants Eliminate Cardinals in Game 7

October 23rd, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The collapse of the St. Louis Cardinals in the National League Championship Series, gives the San Francisco Giants their second trip to the World Series in the past three years.

The Cardinals lost 9-0 last night in Game 7 of a series they once lead three games to one.

The series meltdown of St. Louis was mainly in part to a an offense that was outscored 20-1 over the last three games, with three starting pitchers combining for just over nine innings in the losses.

Redbird starter Kyle Lohse could not make it through the third inning last night, with the Giants scoring five times in the 3rd, including a 3-RBI Hunter Pence hit.

Although the Cardinals needed to win only one of the last three games to secure their trip back to the World Series, manager Mike Matheny said the Giants just got hot and played good baseball.

Following the Game 7 Giants win, Marco Scutaro was named the Most Valuable Player of the series.

The Giants and Detroit Tigers will start World Series play Wednesday night in San Francisco.
