Grant Funds for Homeland Security

October 26th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

The State of Kentucky has awarded $2.2 million dollars in Homeland Security grants to 97 projects across the state.

The funds will be used for first responder, communications and critical infrastructure equipment.

Locally, Hickman County received $20,000 for a repeater system and portable radios, while Carlisle County was awarded $29,000 for sirens and video systems.

Governor Steve Beshear said the funds strengthen the effectiveness of first responders in their protection of citizens during natural and man made disasters.

Initially, 211 applications were submitted seeking funds of $11.8 million dollars.
