Before the start of last night’s Cardinals and Rockies game, former University of Tennessee football and baseball star Todd Helton announced his retirement at the end of the season from the Colorado Rockies.

Helton played in the major leagues for 17 years, and has 367 home runs, almost 1,400 RBI’s and is a 5-time All-Star selection.

The Knoxville native attended Central High School before receiving scholarships to play with the Volunteers.

In 1994, Helton was the starting quarterback for Tennessee, until a knee injury forced the team to call on back-up quarterback Peyton Manning.
