Large Fight at Cheer’s Bar over the Weekend

A local police officer received minor injuries injuries and three people were arrested on various charges following a large fight inside Cheer’s Bar in Martin.

Officers with the Martin Police Department, The UT Martin Police Department, and the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department all responded to the call early Sunday morning, and found large group of people fighting inside Cheer’s located on North Lindell Street.

While trying to break up the crowd, Sergeant Mike Wenz with the Martin Police, was struck in the face with a glass bottle and had to be transported to Volunteer Community Hospital to get stitches.

During the altercation, at least two shots were reportedly fired by unknown suspects in the parking lot.

Floyd Stewart of Pinson was arrested for aggravated assault against Sergeant Wenz. Jasmine Hester of Memphis was arrested for Public Intoxication and Union City resident Willie Huff was charged with disorderly conduct.

Several other patrons had minor injuries and other reports were filed in reference to assaults that occurred during the bar fight.

The investigation is still ongoing and anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Martin Police or the Crime Stoppers Tip line.
