Lattus Pre-Trial Conference Set

November 14th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

A pre-trial conference has been set for the man accused in the murder of Hickman Mayor Charles Murphy.

30 year old Tommy Lattus, of Hickman, was in Fulton County Circuit Court Wednesday, where a competency hearing was scheduled in front of Judge Tim Langford.

Commonwealth Attorney Mike Stacey told KYTN News that a conference call with Dr. Susan Vaught, of Western State Hospital, revealed to the court that Lattus could answer to the charges of murder.

Stacey said the hearing lasted approximately 45 minutes and resulted in Judge Langford setting a pre-trial conference for December 5th, in which Lattus can enter a plea or a trial date will be set.

Lattus admitted to Hickman Police officers to shooting Mayor Charles Murphy at his home with a shotgun, during the early morning hours of January 23rd.

He is now being held at the Fulton County Detention Center on a $1 million dollar bond.

Lattus is represented by Mayfield attorney Dennis Null.
