Martin Board Meeting

November 13th, 2012 - By Steve James

The Martin City Board has approved a grant to build a safe room within the city.

The Board unanimously approved the one million dollar grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The safe room is estimated to be able to hold 1,000 people, and it will be located in front of the Senior Adult Center. It will serve a duel purpose as a safe room and a new community center.

The city’s contribution is approximately $220,000 dollars. Mayor Randy Brundige said the city will start looking at several different banks to find a loan for the project. The mayor said construction will probably start in the spring.

This was Ward Two Alderman Johnny Tuck’s last meeting as a member of the board after he was defeated in the election by David Sudberry. Mr. Tuck said he enjoyed his eight years in the position, and would continue to help the city anyway he could.

Mr. Sudberry will be sworn in at next months board meeting scheduled for December 10th at 5:15 in the city courtroom.
