Martin Man Facing Assault and Theft Charges

March 19th, 2013 - By Steve James

A Martin man is facing theft and assault charges following an incident on Highway 431.

According to reports, the Weakley County Sheriff’s Department was called to a home on Highway 431 in reference to someone breaking into their house.

The victim told officers that her ex boyfriend, 23 year old De-Avery Russell broke into her home and assaulted her and a male friend that was inside.

The victim then ran to a nearby house, and that’s where she called authorities. Russell left her house and officers couldn’t find him when they arrived on scene. The victim was then transported to the Martin Police Department to complete her statement.

While at the station, deputies received a call of a break in at the home the victim had called police. Authorities came back to the scene and found the front door of the house had been forced open.

While searching the area, they noticed some movement back at the victim’s house and they then found Russell in the victim’s living room.

Russell reportedly had several items belonging to the victim, so he was charged with theft of property along with two counts of aggravated burglary and one count of domestic assault.
