Martin Man Facing Theft and Burglary Charges

A Martin man is facing burglary and theft charges after allegedly breaking into several cars in the Martin area.

According to reports, a woman on Hannings Lane noticed a man later identified as 54 year old Jerome Shanklin, in her friend’s car. She then when back inside to get the owner, and Shanklin left.

Officers were called and picked Shanklin up a short time later and the witness identified him as the man she saw in the car. The owner told authorities the only thing she noticed missing was a large amount of change.

After searching Shanklin, officers found almost seven dollars worth of change, a Garmin brand GPS, a silver necklace and several other items.

Shanklin reportedly admitted to officers that he took the other items including the GPS, from a car that was parked at University Courts.



He’s been charged with two counts of burglary from a motor vehicle and two counts of theft of property.
