Martin Police Conduct Active Shooter Training

June 18th, 2013 - By Steve James

Officers of the Martin and UTM Police Departments recently participated in training which has become extremely important to law enforcement across the United States. Officers trained at all Martin area schools on the proper tactical methods in the event there is an active shooter on campus.

An active shooter is defined as “an individual actively engaged in killing or attempting to kill people in a confined and populated area; in most cases, active shooters use firearm[s] and there is no pattern or method to their selection of victims.

The exercise took place at the Martin Middle and Westview High Schools on Thursday June 13th and Martin Primary and Elementary Schools on Friday June 14th. The training gave officers the opportunity to become familiar with the layout of each school and train on various shooting scenarios to prepare them for any incident that might occur.
