New Building Saving Lives

December 26th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

A newly constructed building, at the Fulton County Detention Center in Hickman, is living up to its mission to change lives in different ways.

From Monday thru Friday, the facility serves as a all-day classroom for the jail’s SAP inmates, which is those attending the Substance Abuse Program.

Now on Sunday mornings, the building will serve as a house of worship.

This past Sunday, under the direction of members of the Parkway Church of Christ in Fulton, over 100 inmates joined with county officials and jail staff for a service of prayer, preaching and spirited singing.

Jailer Ricky Parnell told KYTN News that he was excited about the worship services for the inmates, which on this day included over 400 gift bags from local churches.

The 40 foot by 80 foot building was constructed by inmate labor, and was even destroyed during early construction by a severe storm.
