Odle Gets Six Months in Jail

January 31st, 2013 - By Steve James

Following his sentencing hearing, Dresden native Preston Odle will now spend the next six months in jail.

Odle, who originally made headlines back in May when he was one of the two men who pled guilty to torturing a puppy to death, stood before Judge Bill Acree  to hear his punishment for violating the probation he received in that incident.

His probation was revoked after he was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and contributing to the delinquency of a minor stemming from an incident in which he was a driving a vehicle while a minor passenger shot at a deer.

Judge Acree gave a two year sentence, in which he’ll spend six months in jail and the rest will be served as a form of house arrest.

Once again almost two dozen animal advocates were in the courtroom to hear the ruling.

Spokeswoman for the group “Justice for Puppy Doe” Lisa Oatsvall, said she satisfied with the verdict but said jail time should have been his original sentence.

Advocates for Companion Animals Spokeswoman Susan Lyngass  said she was also happy with the outcome and encourages area residents to always report cases of animal abuse

Odle has already served 47 days for the charges, so that time will be taken off the jail sentence and Weststate Corrections will work out the terms of his house arrest.
