Odle Has One of His Charges Dropped and Will Spend 45 Days in Jail

January 2nd, 2013 - By Steve James

Dresden native Preston Odle will be behind bars for a bit longer following his appearance in general sessions court.

Odle, who made headlines in May after begin charged with aggravated animal cruelty after killing a four month old Saint Bernard puppy, was arrested last month on charges of possession of a firearm by a convicted felon and contributing to the delinquency a minor.

In that incident, Odle was reportedly driving a vehicle while a minor was shooting at a deer out of a passenger side window.

Today, Assistant District Attorney Colin Johnson said his office made a deal with Odle to drop the firearm possession charges if Odle would plead guilty to the contributing charge.

Odle agreed to the deal and Judge Tommy Moore sentenced him to 45 days in jail for the remaining charge.

Odle will next appear in front of Judge Bill Acree on Thursday January the 17th to determine if he has violated his probation.

Mr Johnson spoke to WCMT after the hearing and said his office dropped the firearm possession charge because technically, Odle isn’t a convicted felon yet because he was on judicial diversion.

Judge Acree was the one who sentenced Odle to the two years of judicial diversion in the animal cruelty case and if found in violation of his probation, he could face up to two years in prison.
