Reidland Students Return to Classroom

December 19th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

Students returned to class today in Reidland, after sheriff’s officials were able to interview the author of a letter sent to the Paducah Sun.

McCracken County Sheriff Jon Hayden issued a release saying the newspaper finally released the name of the individual, after that person and other familiar with the letter, agreed to talk to officers.

Hayden said the writer was a 17-year old student, who wrote the letter on behalf and under the direction of a teacher, who feared nothing would be done about the possible threats.

The letter implicated that two students were overheard in conversation talking about “bombs” in the classroom.

After all parties were identified, sheriff’s officials say an investigation revealed the students were discussing a video game called “Mine Craft” which involves blowing up buildings for points.

Sheriff Hayden did say that had the Paducah Sun released the needed information earlier, the situation would not have escalated to the point it was the past two days.
