Robbery and Kidnapping Suspects have Court Appearances

November 16th, 2012 - By Steve James

The three UT Martin students and the juvenile charged in the robbery and kidnapping incident on campus have had their arraignment hearings in the Weakley County Court System.

22 year old Jeremy Anderson of Knoxville, 21 year old Cortez Bowen of Memphis, 19 year old Richard Taylor, and a 17 year old male are charged with two counts of aggravated kidnapping and two counts of especially aggravated robbery.

The charges stem from the incident Monday night in which two victims reported the three men and the juvenile pulled guns on them, put them in separate vehicles, and demanded money. The victims reported approximately 700 dollars were taken from them.

The investigation later reveled a large amount of marijuana was recovered, and the two victims could now face drug related charges.

At the arraignment, Bowen and Taylor had bond set at $150,000 dollars a piece, and Anderson was held without bond. They had their preliminary hearings set for Wednesday afternoon.

The 17 year old had his initial detention hearing, and it was decided he will have a transfer hearing Tuesday morning to determine if he will be tried as an adult in the case.
