South Fulton Eliminated at State Tournament

The South Fulton Red Devils softball team was eliminated Wednesday afternoon at the State Tournament in Murfreesboro.

The Red Devils were handed an 11-5 loss by University School of Johnson City, after leading in the 4th inning.

South Fulton took a 3-2 lead in the 1st inning, when Cassidy Ruddle collected an RBI single.

Ruddle doubled the score to 4-2 in the 3rd inning, when she again drove home Aalia Bivens on a base hit.

University School battled back to take the lead in a big 5th inning.

Haley Faulker gave the Buccaneers the lead when she hit a 2-RBI double.

The deciding blow in the inning came just moments later, when Barrett Wherry homered with bases loaded for a 9-4 lead.

University School added two runs in the 7th, while South Fulton scored once, but left bases loaded.

Desiray Sturgeon led South Fulton with three hits in the game, while Cassidy Ruddle and AalIia Bivens each had two hits apiece.

The loss ends the Red Devils season at (24-15).
