Sports for Monday March 4th

The Bracket’s have been set for Girls State Tournament this week held in Murfreesboro

 

In Class A, Union City will take on Cloudland High School from East Tennessee at 10 am on Thursday. Union City defeated Middleton 46 to 32 Saturday night to advance while Westview defeated Memphis Manassas 62 to 35.

Union City takes the number one ranking into the state tournament and hasn’t lost a game since the Christmas holidays. Coach Eddie Suiter said Cloudland will be a tough opponent and said every team in Murfreesboro has a chance at the state title.

 

The Westivew Lady Chargers 29 and 6 drew Elizabethton who is 26 and 4 and will play at one oclock Thursday afternoon.

 

Westview won the state championship in 2005 defeating Livingston Academy. The two teams could rematch again because they are in opposite brackets.

 

Other West Tennessee girls team set to play include Covington taking on Macon County on Thursday at 4 while Madison Academic will play Collinwood on Wednesday afternoon at 4. The boys sectional concludes tonite with a couple of West Tennessee Teams playing. Trinity Chrisitan Academy is at Humboldt while Lake County travels to Memphis Academy of Health Sciences (MAHS)

 

Memphis Sheffield will play Jackson South while Jackson Liberty travels to Memphis Mitchell. The winners will go to the state tournaments that’s scheduled for next week

In the first Region basketball tournament at Murray State:

Graves County defeated Carlisle County 63 to 50 to claim a birth in the Sweet 16

 

Tonite Graves County will play Murray at 6:00

and Marshal County will play Paducah Tilghman at 7:45

The winners will meet tomorrow for the Championship and a birth in the girls Sweet 16.

 

 

In college basektball…both UT Martin teams have earned a post season game in the OVC Tournament this week.

 

The UTM men are the #8 seed and will play Wednesday night against Morehead State at 6.

 

The UTM Women are the # 4 seed and will play Thursday at noon, against the winner of the Eastern Kentucky and Murray State game. The OVC tournament is being played at the Nashville Auditorium.
