Summit honored at hospital gala

November 10th, 2012 - By Steve James

Collegiate Sports Legend Pat Head Summitt will receive an award at the 23rd annual West Tennessee Healthcare Foundation’s Charity Gala tonight in Jackson.

Summitt is being honored with the Tigrett Award which recognizes a Tennessean who has greatly contributed to society through his/her talents and leadership locally, nationally and abroad.

She announced last year she had early-onset dementia, and stepped down as head coach of the Tennessee Lady Volunteers in April.

The UT Martin graduate is the all-time winningest coach in NCAA basketball history, collecting over 1 thousand wins, eight national titles and 18 Final Four appearances in 38 seasons.

All proceeds from the benefit will go to the Ayers Children’s Medical Center and the Kirkland Cancer Center at Jackson-Madison County General Hospital.
