Tennessee Soldier Killed in Afghanistan

Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam has announced the death of a Tennessee soldier in combat.

Department of Defense reports said 24 year old Staff Sergeant Christopher Michael Ward, of Oak Ridge, was fatally injured when his vehicle was struck by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan.

Sgt. Ward was serving with the 7th Calvary Regiment, 1st Armor Combat Tean of Fort Stewart Georgia.

Ward attended Oak Ridge High School and enlisted in the United States Army in November 2006.

Wards body is expected to arrive today at the McGhee Tyson Air National Gurad Base, with funeral services set for Saturday in Oak Ridge.
