Tennessee Vote on Fiscal Cliff

January 2nd, 2013 - By Charles Choate

Tennessee Republican Senators Lamar Alexander and Bob Corker both voted “yes” on the fiscal cliff bill last night.

Following the vote, Alexander released a statement saying the agreement “rescues 99 percent of Americans from individual and estate tax increases in 2013”.

But despite their support of the bill, Alexander said the Medicare fiscal cliff is still ahead of the country.

Alexander went on to say that he and Senator Corker have a proposal to deal with the out-of-control spending that will soon bankrupt the programs seniors rely on to pay their medical bills.

In his release, Alexander said “if we don’t deal with this during the debt ceiling debate, we are on the road to becoming Greece.”

Also in Tennessee, 9th District Democratic Congressman Steve Cohen voted “yes” to the bill, while 5th District Democratic Congressman Jim Copper voted “no”.
