Union City falls in TSSAA title game 48-35 to Jackson County

At the TSSAA girls state basketball tournament in Murfreesboro Union City’s bid for a state championship trophy came up short Saturday when they fell to the state’s number two team Jackson County 48 to 35.

Union City, ranked number one in the state, trailed 20 to 16 at the half and 42 to 27 at the end of three and got down by 17 in the fourth but cut the lead to 11 points before losing.

Union City finished the season at 32 and 4. The Lady Tornados will return home Sunday afternoon around two o’clock at Union City High School.

Meanwhile the boys TSSAA state tournament begins Wednesday when Lake County will play Watertown with the winner to meet Knoxville Grace Academy or Richland next Friday.

In Class A Humboldt will play Mt. Pleasant Thursday morning at 11.

In other games of local interest in Class AA Jackson South Side will play Knoxville Fulton Thursday at 6:45.
