July 8th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

Two Union City police cruisers were damaged during the 4th of July period by fireworks and gunshots.

Police department reports indicated the vehicles were damaged while at 500 Nash Street, where a large group of people were throwing artillery shells at vehicles, houses and other individuals.

The report stated that officers at the scene were also the subject of being struck by fireworks thrown from the group.

Following the late night 4th of July patrol, officers Chris Cummings and Richard Morris each discovered dents, burn marks and bullet holes on the police cruisers.

The report said the bullet strikes appeared near doors and on the front bumper of the patrol cars.
