Union City Police Using Grant Funds

May 13th, 2013 - By Charles Choate

radar gunGrant monies awarded from the Governor’s Highway Safety Office is being used by the Union City Police Department to keep streets safer.

Police Chief Perry Barfield said the funds allow the department to provide added enforcement opportunities, such as their targeted speed patrol efforts last week on west Main Street.

Chief Barfield said with the warmer weather, and more traffic now on the roadways, the possibilities of motorists exceeding the speed limits is greater.

The grant funds also allow the department to take part in campaigns such as the upcoming “Hands Across the Border”, along with nationwide efforts like “Booze It or Loose It” and “Click It or Ticket”.

Chief Barfield said his department has already applied for the Highway Safety grant funds for next year, with the intention of keeping citizens safe when they travel.
