UT-Martin Player Has Neck Surgery

October 9th, 2012 - By Charles Choate

A UT-Martin football player, injured during Saturday’s Homecoming game at Hardy Graham Stadium, underwent surgery in Nashville Monday.

University reports said defensive back Fred Flenorl, of Memphis, had surgery to stabilize his vertebrae at Vanderbilt Medical Center.

Flenorl was first airlifted from the game to Jackson-Madison County General Hospital with a neck injury.

The junior player did not have spinal cord damage, according to the release, and was moving both his arms and legs after the play just before halftime.

Before his injury, Flenorl was having a big game against Eastern Illinois, recording 10 tackles, a fumble recovery and a blocked point after touchdown.
