St. Louis Cardinal rookie pitcher Micheal Wacha earned his first career win in the big leagues last night, as the Redbirds beat the New York Mets 9-2 at Citi Field.

The win was a come-from-behind effort, sparked by a five run 5th inning.

Wacha helped his own cause in the game, tying the score at 2-2 with an RBI in the 5th.

Yadier Molina put the Redbirds on top 3-2 with an RBI single, with Allen Craig then extending the St. Louis lead with a 3-run home run.

Shane Robinson finished off the Cardinals scoring on the night, when he batted in the 9th.

Wacha’s first win came after six innings of work, allowing five hits, with four strikeouts.

Matt Holiday added three hits in the game for St. Louis, while David Freese extended his hitting streak to 20 straight games.

The Cardinals and Mets play Game 2 of their series tonight, with broadcast time on 1049 KYTN set to start at 5:15.
