Weakley County Commission Meeting

July 30th, 2013 - By Steve James

At Monday night’s Weakley County Commission Meeting, Commissioners approved a proposal to give all non certified County employees a three percent raise in salary and benefits.

The plan also calls for certified employees, such as teachers or administrators, to receive a one time bonus of approximately $598 dollars.

In other business, the commission approved the various 2013-2014 fiscal year budgets. They include $8.1 million dollars for the General Fund, $4.4 million for the Highway Fund and $30 million for the school fund.

Commissioners also approved the new property tax rate which is set at $2.13 per $100 dollars of assessed value. The previous year’s rate was $2.17 per $100 dollars of assessed value. This rate will still generate the same amount of revenue as last year.

Several appropriations to non profit groups were approved as well, and they include: $96,000 dollars to the Joint Economic and Community Development Board, $52,000 dollars to the libraries in Weakley County and $22,000 dollars to the Chamber of Commerce.

$6,000 dollars went to the Dolly Parton Reading Railroad Program, which provides free books to area children every month from birth until they reach five years old.

The County Commission will meet again for their regular meeting on Monday September 16th at 5:30 in the Commission Room at the Courthouse in Dresden.
