Weakley County Commission Meeting

January 30th, 2013 - By Steve James

At the Weakley County Commission meeting last night, Commissioners approved a measure to support Henry County’s attempt to get a new 4-H Center.

4-H officials have been looking in surrounding counties for land to open a new center since the Buford Ellington 4-H Center in Milan closed in 2009.

Commissioner James Bynum said he spoke to Obion County UT Extension office director Tim Smith and he said neither Weakley or Obion Counties have given any suggestions for locations, but Henry County has.

Commissioner Bynum said a new center in Henry County would be much closer than the current one in Columbia, and Smith told him a letter from the county commission showing their approval would help with the application process.

The motion to pen the letter was unanimously approved and the letter will be sent out in the next few days.

In other business, Commissioners reelected Jeff Washburn as the county attorney and appointed Commissioner Earl Wright as the newest member of the Weakley County Extension Committee.

The County Commission will meet again Monday March the 18th at 5:30 in the Commission Room at the Courthouse in Dresden.
