Weakley County will Host Military Exercise This Summer

May 2nd, 2013 - By Steve James

It was announced at Thursday night’s Weakley County School Board Meeting that the Weakley County area has been chosen to be the host site for a military program that will offer free medical care for the community during the second two weeks of July.

The program, called “Innovative Readiness Training”, will bring 200-300 military reservists from all branches in order to train for potential disaster situations.

While here, they’ll stay in the area for two weeks and provide free dental service, vision care, general practice service and behavioral health care for those in the surrounding community for no charge.

Program officials have said they’ll contract with local businesses in order to provide food, transportation, and lodging for the hundreds of military personnel members.

Director of Schools Randy Frazier, said this is an opportunity for Weakley County to help in a much needed military training exercise and gives area residents a chance to receive medical care they may not otherwise be able to afford.

The same training was done last summer in Alabama and in a nine day span, the medical personnel on staff saw and treated over 30,000 people.

Mr. Frazier said the tentative dates for the events are Tuesday July 9th through Friday July the 19th. Military officials will be coming in on May the 20th to speak with school, county and city officials to work out specific times and places for the various medical care services.

In other business, School Board Chairman Dr. Gordon Morris gave a brief synopsis of Director Frazier’s recent evaluation. All categories had a high score of five and in relation with the school board, he received a 4.9, in staff and personnel relationship a 4.8, in business and finance a 5.0, community relationship a 4.9 and for personality, Frazier received a perfect 5.0

The school board will meet again on Thursday June the 6th at the Board of Education Office in Dresden.
